I heart vintage ceramic planters.

I was thrift shopping recently (as I too often am...) and I stumbled upon a small batch of ceramic planters. One depicting two pastel parakeets cuddling in front of a woven basket - another, three pink and black fish riding across foamy ocean waves. Even a feminine bunny complete with tail and whiskers was available for purchase. It appeared as though someone donated their collection or that someone donated an elderly relative's collection... They were just sitting there on the shelf, in their infinite cuteness, and I thought to myself "I think people either love these or hate them."

I, personally, am a lover. Several of these decorative wares can be found at my place. My husband even built and installed a couple of minty green shelves in our office so I could display them. Since I began accumulating these fragile figures, I have found some unconventional uses for them. They are mentioned below.

If you adore them too, please enjoy some photos from my own collection along with some that are available for purchase on various sites. Please share your uses for these little containers in the comments below. Feel free to describe your favorite planter too.

XOXO

  1. I love these planters! Remember that cute horse planter...I think you've just convinced me to keep it instead of listing it in The Jennie Orr Store! Although, I think I might be turning into a hoarder instead of a shop owner at this point.

  3. I have a collection of these too but have recently put them aside for some other items. In fact I'm considering selling some on Ebay. There are a couple that I just cannot part with as they are the ones that got me started.

  4. Searching websites trying to identify a planter I have, I came across your site. I'm in the process of postin 15-20 planters as times allow on eBay if your interested. Might take me a while because I'm trying to I.D. each one. You can find me on eBay kathym7016. I have some really cute ones you might like.
